Located in Park Street Mews, a bustling little laneway of restaurants & cafés in central Colombo is Uncle’s. Park Street Mews is a series of warehouses which were converted into retail and F&B outlets many years ago.
The space used to be a cake shop and had an extended mezzanine floor. We cut it back, introduced a new DJ platform and added a statement spiral staircase. We added a kitchen and restroom and the space drifts well from inside to out allowing guests to spill onto the street.
The design concept was created around a strong local theme, with references to railway signage, local typography, local tavern references, with South Asian hustle & bustle.
The colour scheme centred around a dramatic mural created by Graphic Designer Rosa and we chose to have it hand painted on the largest wall by cinema board painters. Prior to printing, all cinema advertising used to be hand painted and we were able to work with 2 gentlemen who hand painted the entire wall to scale with a small A5 print out as reference!
